Whoa! I went there with my girlfriend when visiting Japan last year. It was packed and we made some local friends who got us some chicken cartilage (think it was called gummy chicken or something like that). 😀

Japanese traditionally use charcoal made of daimyo oak for yakitori. It’s a slow burning wood with high fire with a clean smoke

We went there last night. Was not impressive at all. Could be the yakitori in Kyoto we had the night before was so much better. That one was a five stars and I give 2.5 stars to this one.

Is there another yakitori place you’d recommend in Tokyo near shinjuku?
We used to buy it by the dozen (?) from street carts during festivals and parades, downtown Misawa City. I've YET to find a recipe that comes remotely close to that. It's one of my "holy grail" recipes. Blasted with flavor, juicy, charred just right, resting in it's sauce in the clamshell container. We'd probably spend over $30 as a family (co 1983). Nearly everything I have tried stateside is either dry or bland.
Yakitori in the Ginza district is the Best ever.
You know how one of your trademarks is always to say… “this is Asian at hoooooome”. When you travel you should open with “this is Asian abroooooad”. Just a thought
