  • OK but that is not really grilling them now is it? You cooked them in steam and then added color through with the grilling process. I was looking for a cooking method done with just the grill alone.

  • The artichokes did not need to be precooked for 45 minutes. Maybe 20-30 at most.

  • Gave this a try and loved it, excellent tip with keeping the stem—always used to just chop and toss. Thanks.

  • Using a peeler on the stem is a great idea. I usually just cut it off but will try peeling it now. Thanks!

  • Mine were very tough and the stems were too woody. I had slightly smaller artichokes and so I steamed them for 25-30 mins. I even peeled off more of the outside leaves because they were extremely tough. I could barely cut through them! Maybe they were old and not as fresh as the ones you had. I will definitely try them again, because I made them once before on the grill and they were great. however, that time I really paired them down so they were much more tender and required no steaming. I will look for fresher ones this summer at the Farmer's Market in my town. Thank you!

  • Thanks Jason! This looks so delicious! I have never grilled them before! When I have boiled them, I have eaten the choke; that is tender and delicious! What type of dip did you make?

  • Extra Lemon during steaming led to great flavor.  Use extra lemon!  It helps that we are trying to use up the remaining lemons on our tree.

  • I've never had them before….so the only part you can eat is the stem and bit of meat on the leaves?

  • Well, you can't really grill these from a raw state. Steam/boil and leave them in the refer a day before hitting the grill. Bring out the day of your party and throw them on the grill and have your friends be amazed! ha ha!
