  • Tri tip should always be cooked medium. 130 internal temp. I wouldn't set the temp higher than 350 only when ready to sear. Searing the meat only takes a couple of minutes and adds a great fired meat flavor. I cook tri-tips whole and not cut down to steaks. You can always cut it after cooking. Enjoy!!!

  • good video….couple of tips, i do a LOT of tri-tip (never on a pellet smoker until this afternoon) and i would not recommend tenderizing it. it will be nice and tender post smoke. get it to 130 and then a quick 2 minute sear on high heat. cover it foil and let it rest 15-20 minutes for a 2 pounder.
