Who started the idiotic "flax seed oil" fad? Because flax seed oil has a smoking point at around 225 degrees, which means if you season with flax seed oil it's gonna smoke every time you get above that temperature. Check out THIS guide instead for higher-temperature (and safe) choices for seasoning oils: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/health/smoke-point-matters-in-cooking-with-oil/article26569060/
Omg I did this tonight on my new Skillet and it smoked the entire kitchen up. Be careful. It's 20 degrees outside and I have all the doors open getting the smoke out of the house I dof exactly as she did here. 500 degrees in the oven all but burned all the oil off and smoked the house up. I wiped it all off and it was horrible
wife: why are you sprinkling Season All all over you skillet
me: i'm seasoning my skillet
This pans are very heavy 🙁
Now I know why someone would just give away a cast iron.
This looks really painful.
I like that little salt tip.
Anyone know how to do the oven part with a skillet with a wooden handle?
How to season the cast iron skillet if I don't have an oven or an oven big enough for the skillet?
I just decided to use my moms cast iron pan. She had hers in the oven for years and it's covered in this black charcoal looking powder. I'm trying my best to wash the hell out of it. Wish me luck.
Woof. lost me the second you used a pre-soaped brillo pad. No soap on a cast iron! Use actual steel wool and rock salt and water. Season a dry pan at 450F for about 2 hours and rub a drop! of olive oil in occasionally and carefully with a dry paper towel.
LOL! it's like loving a good woman lolol
Pubg ?
Everyone likes using these oils to season it, its not needed, just coat it lightly with any neutral oil even olive oil, just so it won't rust, then just start cooking fatty meats, like pork and sausages on high heat and over time that will form the seasoning through use.
Everyone else: I inherited a cast iron pan from (grandma, aunt, mom…)
Me: I inherited a pig iron wok from from my asian grandma
How to cook with a cast iron: put it on the stove, put food in it and cook. SMH. 🙄
These comments are funny. You just season it one time. When you’re done cooking, wipe it out and put it up.
Holy fucking high maintenance. Fuuuck that i’ll stick to normal frying pans
I rather just eat my food raw
y’all are crazy it’s not that hard its a freaking pan. like i only own one non-cast iron pan. one of my pans was passed down from my great-aunt and no one in my family has like. “seasoned” the pan in any special way in all that time. sometimes we’ll oil it just while its sitting on the stove as an afterthought and thats it. this is good care technically but very fussy. idk anyone who does all this. just dont use soap, clean it right after using.
I do not do any of this other than scrubbing it clean with green pad and drying with paper towel then spraying with Pam. Good to go everytime. People over do the care and cleaning of cast iron pans. It is all malarkey.
Lard is the best seasoning for cast iron
HOLY SHIETZ UR MEALS LOOK KILLERS….. BEST CAST IRON IS FOUND OR GIFTED OR BETTER YET PASSED DOWN….. I'D NEVER BUY ONE NEW
you dont need to reapply oil every time you wash it. One first seasoning and cooking with it regularly should maintain the seasoning for a long time.
For the first seasoning process , do you put the oiled pan in pre heated oven or you start with cold oven?
Thank you so much for this video, I love cast iron ♥️
Can u use Avacado Oil to season your pan?
Teflon Don is laughing in his pan.
I wonder how this method compares to the stove stop seasoning method
ugh.. so hard, so hard
Is this only worth it if you eat meat? If you’re plant based isn’t stainless steel best?
