Easy 20 Minute Oven Baked Trout Recipe – How to Fillet Baked Trout

Baking rainbow trout in foil packets helps the fish cook perfectly. While they bake, juices form at the bottom of the packet. This is delicious when spooned over the cooked trout when serving. Other ingredients to consider adding to the middle of the fish are thinly sliced garlic, onion, or greens (like spinach). We also share how to fillet your trout after it is done baking. It is really easy!

How to Make Grilled Trout: Follow the directions in the video to make each packet. Heat grill to medium-high heat. Place the packets over indirect heat. Grill 10 to 15 minutes, or until cooked through.

  • I just cannot keep the heads on something about the little guys looking at me after I dispatched em makes me uneasy but yeah this is exactly how I was taught to cook and serve trout. Sadly I saw too many vids where the skin and 1/3 of the fish was wasted from filleting before cooking. This is the best way!

  • Thank you very much. I've been baking Trout in foil for a long time, but a;ways had difficulty filleting it. Your method is very simple, and worked perfectly. Only one complaint as I have with all American food videos, temperature. You should give the temp' in C as well as F. 400 F is 200 C.

  • Thank you for this video. I caught three fresh rainbow trout and after learning how to clean them I watched your video to cook it and absolutely nailed my first attempt. In your video it would have been helpful to know what temperature to have the oven and a description of what the fish should look like after the first 10 minutes of cooking and the final check conditions to know it was done. All it all I appreciate the time you took to explain the process and because it I had three tasty trout for dinner.
