Upgrading Or Replacing Your BBQ Grillware
Wake up call incoming: Your BBQ grill and grill ware will not last forever. I know you love your spatula or tongs. Sorry to bring the bad news.
Eventually, with regular use or even collecting dust, burners clog, and rust, rubber parts fade, become brittle and crack, and your barbecue loses its luster and efficiency with grilling.
If you have older grill ware that isn’t working as well as you remember, it may be time to upgrade your grilling battle kit.
Wooden grilling tools can get old, gross, and even nibbled on by pests. I am sure you can clean it up, but I will toss it in the trash. Also, if I were to get it clean or repaired, Id be embarrassed in front of friends and family. I wouldn’t want to be seen with filthy looking tongs! I am sure you feel the same way. Not to mention a grill that looks like it’s going to fall apart.
Something like these on Amazon are dishwasher friendly. You can keep them cleaner for longer.
However, don’t pick the first components you find that fits you and your and grill. Many parts are interchangeable with different model grills, but some are very specific. For example, a great looking kettle grill grate might be an excellent find. Do you have a kettle grill?
Upgrading or Grill Maintenance
While some things are universal, others aren’t, and it’s essential to make sure you’re getting parts and attachments that work for your model grill.
You’ll need to verify your grill and find out if it’s capable of handling any upgrades you apply. Then, you’ll know what you need that will work for you. In some cases, that means buying from the dealer that sold you the original grill, which is not always cheap. You can shop around find out parts of the correct brand or size, as long as you know what you need.
Amazon.com is a fantastic place to find grill parts and accessories. Not only cheaper than the dealer, in almost every case but an excellent return policy if you were wrong. I always say if you can show me, someone that is never wrong, I’ll show you a liar.
One thing you need to do is make sure that you don’t have to be a licensed propane gas technician before you modify your grill. In some areas of the world, this is legally required, and for a good reason. After all, on gas grills, a propane leak is hazardous, causing the possibility of fires and explosions. Before beginning work on any grill, you’ll need to make sure you know exactly what you’re doing. Pay attention to what safety precautions to take and what problems you might face if you are modifying or repairing a grill.
Some of your options when it comes to replacement grill ware include new knobs, handles, plumbing, burners and burner assemblies, grates, igniters, heat indicators, hoses, warming wracks and lots more. Some of these parts wear out over time. Others can become clogged and need replacement, and sometimes you just want a better part than the one your grill came with!
Grilling Accessories
Other parts never need replacing unless they’ve been damaged. Tools like forks, tongs, spatulas and skewers, griddles, grates, and similar items can last forever. If properly cared for, of course. They’re sold by the same stores that offer barbecue grill ware, but you don’t need technical know how to get them to work. They can make your grilling experience a lot better if you choose the right ones, though.
The only real problem I have is if the metal tongs are too bent or broke. The next issue is the handles. People like wooden handles, but after a while, they can get quite gross. At this time, I would recommend replacing them instead of cleaning them. Imagine the gunk and juices that can get stuck in there. Ew.
If you love to grill, keeping your tools and the grill itself in the right shape is essential. Upgrading and replacing parts can be a big help, and can even make your grill use less fuel. Check out all your options when it comes to new grill ware for your barbecue grill.
