First SmokeFire St. Louis PORK RIBS Attempt at 250 F

My first attempt at smoking ribs on the Weber SmokeFire EX6. Everything was generally going fine, smoking the ribs at 250 F. Then all the sudden the smoker just stopped working and lost temperature, dropping to 50 degrees. The computer was totally locked up and I could not even properly shut it down. I just had to turn it off and attempt to start over. Before failing, the cook was going just fine for about 3 hours. The grill had been running fine for over 5 hours before this happened. Currently looking into a glow plug issue and making sure the setup is OK with Weber.

  • Man, you're a LOT calmer than I would have been mid-cook to lose your fire on a shiny new cooker.

  • Did you see the issue with Baby Back Maniac said there was a pocket in the pellet chamber on his?

  • Mine is being delivered today and I'm thinking about not opening it. Return to Lowe's. Thanks for you're videos.

  • hey bro, baby back manic had a problem with the pellets not feeding in. his dropped temp and the hopper was semi full but there was a void space where it gets fed in

  • I wanted to Weber so bad but after watching some of the videos I think I will go with the camp chef

  • I'm glad I live in Texas where this grill will do better!

  • Is there a reason you are not using the temp probe slot at the top of the lid?

  • This must have been a late Friday night model – I don’t know how you are staying so cool – I was thinking of buying one of these very expensive (uk) slowfires but after your experience if I had that it would be a court case for me and Weber. Ps had Weber’s for the last 35 years and this has clearly been released too early.

  • And this is why I don’t like to buy new stuff when it first hits the street. smh

  • One word REC TEC for smoking. One suggestion though, check for bridging in your pellet hopper, it's not steep enough and the pellets hang so the cooker thinks you're running dry and shuts down.

  • Sorry for your problems! Thanks for sharing, and for the rub recipes. Just found your channel… I'm just over in Nebraska, but I grew up in S.W. Iowa. 👍🏻

  • the caveman had no problems cooking his meat back in the days. electronics and bbq don't seem to go together. I guess there will be no easier way to bbq without a little work and fuss. good luck

  • Garbage machine. Wait until the grease fires happen and the cleanup is going to a bitch with no grease deflecter. Get a rec tec superior in every way.

  • So disappointed in all these real life videos of the unit. Hope weber fixes all the issues.

  • Your deff not the only one having issues. Seems like more and more videos are popping up daily.

  • Good grief. Sorry man. I mean thanks for the vids, I was literally going to order yesterday and stumble onto your channel and now I’m holding off. I’ve been on the preorder list since January and eagerly awaiting that email and for some reason held off. So disappointed in the early reviews of this thing. There just aren’t any excuses; cold weather? Weber is in the Chicago area. Wind? Again, Chicago area. This is so far a comedy of errors. The app apparently sucks. But whatever, if it smokes and works, I don’t care about an app. Here’s to hoping a quick fix can regain your confidence as well as the rest of us eagerly awaiting parting with $1200 on this thing with confidence. Right now my confidence is leaning to a Summit charcoal. Really appreciate the feedback

  • FWIW, this 100% sucks, but this experience is not that of others. There are many on the Pitmaster forum at Amazingribs that have had nothing but positive experiences. Myself included. Three days in and it works 100% as expected. The EX6 is my 4th pellet grill, and so far, so good.

  • This is unfortunate. I really had high hopes for this smoker. I'll definitely be following for updates on the situation. Hopefully yours isn't representative of the Smoke Fire as a whole. Maybe they'll replace it under warranty?

  • I thought Weber said they tested this smoker "without the smokestack", and it was supposed to work better. If the wind comes through the vents in the back and effects the cooking that much, I don't think they tested it enough. Thanks for posting and the updates. I feel for you buddy, getting a new smoker and having that many problems already. I'd be on the phone with Weber until everything was fixed!

  • Weber better make it right, iv been watching this smoker from the beginning and really want it, but I'm not a very patient person I'll most likely buy a different brand. Good luck and keep us updated

  • Man… frustrating. Thank you for being open and honest with all this. I was going to drop my Green Mountain Grill and grab one of these. Not sure about it now. I hope Weber makes it right. Keep us all in the loop. Best of luck!

  • Just got mine. Seasoned it last night. Doing ribs as well. Just ran into The same issue. Pellets were actually stuck. It created a cavity and stopped feeding the auger. Moved them around and is running again. Currently cooking. Will advise if it happens off again.

  • Was super excited to purchase a new Weber pellet smoker but watching the all the new reviews and finally seeing this, u just saved me 1100.00 dollars.

  • I came really close to waiting on these and buying one. If I had spent that kind of money on that thing I would be furious. Take it back and buy a RecTec, I am absolutely ecstatic with my.

  • Thanks for these honest reviews, keep the content coming, hopefully Weber does something to remedy these issues. Rec Tec should send you a rt-700 grill so you can do a comparison, they’re the exact same price point.
